Internal medicine covers a wide range of illnesses that affect your pet’s internal organs. Because these conditions often present with vague or overlapping symptoms—like excessive drinking, changes in appetite, or chronic lethargy—we rely on thorough clinical evaluations and our in-house laboratory to get clear answers.

Our internal medicine capabilities include:

What are the signs my pet might need an internal medicine evaluation?

Internal illnesses often start with very subtle signs. You should schedule an exam if you notice your pet drinking significantly more water, urinating frequently, experiencing sudden weight loss or gain, suffering from chronic vomiting or diarrhea, or showing a persistent lack of energy.

Can chronic conditions like diabetes or kidney disease be managed at home?

Yes! While a chronic diagnosis can sound scary, many of these conditions are highly manageable. We will partner closely with you, teaching you exactly how to administer medications (including insulin, if needed), manage specialized prescription diets, and monitor your pet’s daily quality of life.

How does the visiting specialist process work?

If your pet’s condition requires a board-certified internal medicine specialist, we coordinate to have them travel directly to Battletown Animal Clinic. They will review your pet’s case, perform advanced diagnostics like detailed ultrasounds right in our building, and collaborate with our primary doctors to create a specialized treatment plan—saving you the stress of driving to an unfamiliar specialty hospital.

What should I bring to an internal medicine appointment?

Because we are looking for subtle clues to diagnose complex conditions, information is key! Please bring all of your pet’s current medications and supplements in their original bottles, the exact name or a photo of the food they eat, and any previous medical records if you are a new client. If your pet is exhibiting a specific symptom at home (like a unique cough, trembling, or breathing change), taking a quick video on your phone is incredibly helpful for our doctors to see.
